The Upper Peninsula of Michigan was built on its mining and timber. In the heart of the Peninsula's North Woods, the land is dotted with small communities that once thrived on these industries. Iron River, Michigan is one such town; Iron River is also known for its beautiful churches. Though the Lutheran and Catholic churches are the first to catch your attention with their red brick gothic design, the Seventh Day Adventist Church that ultimately steals the show with its rock and petrified wood construction.
